Saskatchewan Hydroponics Club Inc. is pleased to recognize the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) for its $15,000 grant in support of Growing Food, Growing Skills: Hydroponics for Community Wellbeing – Regina Pilot.

The 12-month Regina-based project will provide hands-on hydroponics education to support food literacy, healthy eating knowledge, practical food-growing skills, youth learning, newcomer support, and community connection.

“We are grateful to the Community Initiatives Fund for supporting this project,” said Dr. Chidi Igwe, Director of Saskatchewan Hydroponics Club Inc. “This funding will help us offer practical food-growing education free of charge, reducing barriers for youth, families, newcomers, and community members who want to learn how to grow fresh food at home, in schools, and in community spaces.”

“CIF is pleased to support Saskatchewan Hydroponics Club Inc.’s Growing Food, Growing Skills project, which will help Regina residents build practical food-growing knowledge, strengthen community connection, and support wellbeing through accessible, hands-on learning,” said CIF Chair Tim Taylor.

Saskatchewan Hydroponics Club Inc. is now accepting registration for the first three programs in the Growing Food, Growing Skills series. The programs are offered free of charge thanks to funding and in-kind support from the Community Initiatives Fund’s (CIF), the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA), and RONA.

All sessions will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Each session is 90 minutes. Study materials will be sent directly to registered participants.

Hydroponics 101 – Community Education [COHORT 1]
An 8-week introductory program that teaches community members how to grow fresh food using simple, affordable hydroponic methods.
Program period: August 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027

The Growing Food, Growing Skills pilot is designed to support Regina residents, with a focus on youth, newcomers, families, low-income households, and community members who may face barriers to fresh food access or year-round growing opportunities. Through workshops, cohort-based training, and demonstration growing activities, participants will gain practical skills and confidence to grow food using minimal space, water, and equipment.

Saskatchewan Hydroponics Club Inc. welcomes partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses, funders, volunteers, and residents interested in supporting hands-on hydroponics education, food literacy, youth learning, newcomer support, and community-based sustainability programs.
